Jami Fosgate's philosophy is that parties involved in family law issues should first seek to resolve their problems through mediation or collaborative law methods. Litigation - fighting in court - is extremely expensive, time consuming and emotionally draining.
Jami Fosgate graduated magna cum laude from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Broadcast-Journalism and was elected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi. She worked for several years as a television news reporter/anchor and newspaper writer before embarking on a career in marketing and media buying.
After her own divorce, Ms. Fosgate decided to enroll in Loyola Law School. While attending Loyola Law School, she was on the Dean's List each semester, was active in the Evening Women's Law Association, was selected for membership in the St. Thomas More Law Honor Society and earned the award for "Best Oral Advocate" in the annual Scott Moot Court Competition.
During law school, Ms. Fosgate served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Lawrence W. Crispo (Ret.) at Los Angeles Superior Court and she worked for two years as a law clerk at California's premier appellate firm, Horvitz & Levy.
Ms. Fosgate graduated in the top 15% of her class and was licensed by the California State Bar in December 2004. Ms. Fosgate is admitted to practice law before all California courts and the United States District Court, Central District.
Upon graduation from Loyola Law School, Ms. Fosgate was selected to serve for two years as a Law Clerk for Los Angeles Superior Court in Civil Law and Motion. Since 2006, Ms. Fosgate has devoted her practice exclusively to Family Law. She is a graduate of Woody Mosten's Divorce Mediation training program and has completd three day interdisciplinary Collaborative Law training and the Los Angeles County Bar Association's Dispute Resolution Center mediation training. She serves as a volunteer mediator for Los Angeles Superior Court.
Ms. Fosgate is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, Los Angeles Collaborative Family Law Association, Southern California Mediation Association, Beverly Hills Bar Association, Burbank Bar Association, Pasadena Bar Association, San Fernando Valley Bar Association, International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, American Bar Association and Southern California Family Law American Inn of Court where she serves on the Executive Committee.
Ms. Fosgate is a contributor to the Los Angeles Daily Journal and her published articles include "Change of Plans" (November 6, 2008); "When Words Collide (June 16, 2009); and "Support Payments, It's a Question of Time" (January 7, 2010).
